How You Can Get A Free Enhanced Listing in Yahoo With Your RSS Feed

Last week, I cheated on my long-time lover Google, with my old boyfriend Yahoo. And ever since that day, I have considered becoming a bigamist.

(To full understand what that crazy drivel was about read my last article about how to get your RSS feed listed at Yahoo within hours - in 5 simple steps here: http://www.freetrafficdirectory.com/rssyahoo .)

Today, I decided to go ahead and break the law - Yahoo is my new other husband.

What am I talking about, and what does this mean for your site?

When I first discovered that you could get into Yahoo’s RSS Feed directory so quickly, I started making a lot of observations about their site. The first thing I noticed is that they made some subtle changes to their search page. That same day, I noticed that certain sites have more information in their listings than others.

Try this search at Yahoo for example "Get Your RSS Feed Listed Within Hours", quotes and all.

Scroll through the results. Notice for search results number 7 - www.marketingproductreview.com and number 8 www.searchenginejournal.com - the link for a searcher to add your feed from search results is right on the page.

If you're an RSS user, you get the power of this already.

Just in case you're not, lemme spell it out for ya.... Thanks to Yahoo, people won't even have to go to your site to add you to their Yahoo page, if you have the right Meta Tag in your site's header.

And if they don’t use the My Yahoo page to track their feeds? They’ve been kind enough to include a link to your XML link as well.

How do I know this works?

Do another search for need free traffic - without the quotes this time. Scroll down to search result number four - see the one with the feed links?

That’s my site.

Not only did this work, apparently it only takes a few days from submitting your feed. I added this simple code to my site header on the 6th of July. I noticed another traffic increase to my site on the 8th, and I couldn’t figure it out, which led me to check the listings in Yahoo that had sent me the traffic.

How did I do this? I added a simple Meta Tag called RSS Auto Discovery to my site. It’s very simple to use. Here’s what it looks like:

< !-- RSS Autodiscovery -- >

< link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS"

href=" http://www.freetrafficdirectory.com/members/backend.php" / >

Just replace my RSS feed link with your own, and add the tag to the header of your site.

Tinu? Normally a forthcoming woman, her free traffic mental affliction prevented her from telling you the *most* important thing about the RSS Auto-disovery tag.

Ten Fatal Mistakes That Make Web Sites Stink by Herb Leibacher

4 Gays Web Hosting and Design has hundreds of great articles like this for our customers in our FREE Webmaster Resources area

Since you’ll spend lots of time and money to create your web site, don’t you want to make sure you’re not making mistakes that at best irritate users, and at worst make you lose customers?
After all, when you alienate users, you lose potential revenue.
Who can afford that?
Dr. Jakob Nielsen, Principal of the Nielsen Norman Group, says that the top 10 website mistakes include:
1. Not listing prices. Pricing in the most specific piece of information users need to understand the nature of offers. By not providing pricing, people feel lost and it reduces their understanding of a product line. Prices let users differentiate among products.
2. Inflexible search engines. Overly literal search engines reduce user ability because they’re unable to handle typos, plurals, hyphens, etc. It’s also bad when search engines prioritize on the basis of how many query terms they contain, rather than on each document’s importance.
3. Horizontal scrolling. Users hate scrolling left to right.
Pages that require horizontal scrolling in standard-sized windows (800x600 pixels) are terrible.
4. Fixed font size. About 95 percent of the time, this fixed font size is tiny, reducing readability significantly. Users need to be able to resize text as needed.
5. Blocks of text. These are boring and can lose users quickly.
6. JavaScript in links. When links don’t behave as expected, users feel lost. They also hate unwarranted pop-up windows.
7. Infrequently asked questions in FAQs. Don’t list questions you wish users would ask.
8. Collecting email addresses without a privacy policy. When websites ask for email addresses, users react negatively. In the age of spam, no one wants to give away this information without some guarantee.
9. URLs over 75 characters, which make it virtually impossible to email a friend a website address. If it’s too long to show in the browser’s address field, users won’t know how to select it.
If the link is broken, users may not know how to paste it back together.
10. Mailto links in unexpected locations. Don’t place mailto links on names, instead make it clear that mailto address are just that - addresses.
There are many companies that will help you avoid these website mistakes, including Web Builder Express (http://www.blogger.com/www.WebBuilderExpress.com).
Avoid Nielsen’s top 10 website mistakes when you create your web site. Your users will have a more enjoyable experience on your web site, which is a very good thing.
